Please note: OSTEOFIT classes do not replace your physiotherapist’s care and require your physician’s permission to attend.
OSTEOFIT is a 50 minute exercise, education and falls prevention program for people with osteoporosis, low bone density or who are at risk of fractures and falls.  OSTEOFIT will improve your bone health, posture, strength & endurance and result in increased confidence and independence. The Get Up & Go! Program

is a collaboration between the Fraser Health Falls and Injury Prevention and Osteofit (BC Women’s Hospital & Health Centre’s Osteoporosis Program).  It provides an entry level exercise program for seniors with balance and mobility impairment who would otherwise be unable to attend a community based exercise class. It is a safe exercise program specially designed to improve strength, balance and coordination as well as functional ability independence and quality of life.

Subsidy for this program may be available through a referral from the Fraser Health Fall and Injury Prevention Program. (Contact Diana at Office) 604-820-0220 or e-mail

  • June 25, 2018 – I was diagnosed with osteoporosis in 1997. With multiple fractures in my spine in 2002 I started a beginner class with LTL in Mission, BC and have been attending twice a week ever since.  Our fitness instructor was very good and now Alvina Tyler is a great instructor, too.  She is very caring.  I am very happy to know they are trained by the Women’s Health Centre and tested regularly.  I did have a total hip replacement two years ago but recovered very quickly.  I am sure the classes are why I am still walking and living a good life.  It means so much that this program is available.  Jackie Fisher
  • I was introduced to the Osteo class by a friend, Jackie Fisher. We usually attend the class together.  I enjoy the walk to and from the facility.  I also especially enjoy the instructor, Alvina Tyler.  I was in so much pain that I could not do all of the exercises at first.  Her classes have helped me, some days I am only able to go on Thursdays as I have other commitments on Tuesdays.  I especially enjoy nice days outside on the walkabout.  The games are also stimulating, i.e., quick reflex and fun!  I am also a polio survivor 1953 epidemic viz. career in Figure Skating…which helped me.  Velma Tyler Gaudet
  • 150 minute per week fitness challenge and twice weekly Osteofit 1 classes: Everyday living for me in Carrington House is an exercise class for with a left knee replacement, a worn out right knee and a frozen right shoulder, my mobility is vastly restricted, making any mobility doubly hard and longer to do.  Washing myself, dressing and undressing getting through the big door to my suite especially if I drop the key or the door opens too wide.  I have to get the walker thing through too.  Climbing in and out of vehicles with no running board or hand holds.  There I have to use my arms and body muscles to pull myself in and out when walking into a place with a slope to the sidewalk I have to hold the walker with the brakes or else it will get away on me.  All is a struggle and an exercise in itself.  One does not appreciate ones mobility until they lose it……..( re the contest) it was fun.  Irene Yewell (Age 94+)
