The-Pinch-of-Poverty-1891 Thomas-Benjamin-Kennington

Recent TV production of Downton Abbey, and the 2010 revival of the 1971 series Upstairs, Downstairs both testify to current nostalgia and fascination of tracing history through parallel lives of landed and moneyed strata of society and those of the working class who served them. In two presentations we will explore the ways in which social divide has been rendered in visual arts.
