– A generous donation from Lexi of LLC of squash, cucumber, watermelon, cantaloupe and patio tomatoes were planted on a super-hot afternoon.  They watered generously but the soil was very dry.  Garden hose, water wand and sprinkler donated by LLC were immediately put to use.  Desera was smiling ear-to-ear as she recalled planting with her grandmother.  Delaney provided plant knowledge, particularly the difference between the French lavender and the edible type, her advice about being careful to know the difference.

Triangle Veggie Plot, seedlings planted in (see how big the potatoes are!)

May 2016 – some lovely shade loving annuals (impatiens) and aspiring boxwood shrubs have been planted in the front ‘triangle’ (technically a 4-sided unique shape). Weeding is on-going. Guests comment on the nice improvements.

June 2015 – Diane had applied to West Coast Seeds, Delta, BC for a donation to our school garden. We were pleasantly surprised with a package of $300 value of seeds packets, Garden catalogue, Winter Garden Guide and Planting Guide Posters (we ordered). We could plough up the entire school field with all these crops!

Plans are under way for a summer watering schedule and expansion to raised beds for next year.

July & August 2015 – Our volunteer extraordinaire, Bill, came regularly to exercise class on Tuesday & Thursdays and watered both the front (shady) and back (full sun) garden beds through the hot, hot summer. He brought the garden harvest in to exercise class to share with the participants. They went home with cherry tomatoes, ‘patty pan’ (also know as UFO) squash, zucchini and herbs.

September 2015 – School is back! Cherry tomatoes were enjoyed (and boys being boys: tossed!). David made a fine lunch from the garden bounty: steamed green beans, zucchini, and tomatoes with a drizzle of melted cheese on top. Delish!
