This fall in the electoral reform referendum is on the agenda for British Columbians. As citizens  will be asked whether we wish to switch from first-past-the-post to an electoral system of proportional representation.

After voting on that questions we will be asked to rank three different proportional representation systems:

  • Mixed-member proportional
  • Rural-urban proportional
  • dual-member proportional.

This moderated panel discussion hosted by Lifetime Learning will provide you with an opportunity to discuss and learn more about each system. The format for the discussion will be as follows:

  • Brief introduction of panelists and the topic
  • Ten minutes for each side to present the merits of the voting system they support
  • Ten minutes for each side to rebut the points of the other voting system
  • A question and answer session open to everyone at the session

The audience is encouraged to pose their thoughts on the topic in terms of a question to the panelists, rather than a general comment.
