About Rebekah Brackett

Rebekah Brackett is an artist, illustrator and painter. She currently resides in Abbotsford, British Columbia and has completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts. Influences are: Art Spiegelman, Jeff Smith and Radiohead.

The Blue Blanket Period at Mission Arts Centre, Mission, B.C.

A solo exhibition show casing works of art that Rebekah has completed in the last 2 years.


The course starts with pencil and paper then progressing to various media, including watercolour and acrylics. This course is open to participants of all levels & of artistic ability.

Program and Supply List

Drawing basics – shading & blending

Begin discussing about first project: Portraits (dimensions, resolution etc.) and work on some techniques using objects to draw from (ie. Glass jars, balls, leaves etc.) A larger copy of a picture of a portrait to draw (either blown up to 8” x 10”) – preferred to have image emailed to myself and I will blow them up and print them as students will draw graphs on the image (Rebekah will bring in examples).

Materials needed:

  • Paper (newsprint, sketchbook etc.)
  • Pencils (H, F, HB, B, 3B, 5B)
  • Blending stomp
  • Sharpener
  • Eraser

Drawing basics – Charcoal (First half of class will be to discuss and practice drawing with charcoal on newsprint – will have a live person to draw from which will give a different perspective than drawing from a picture)

Remainder of the class will continue to work on project – Portraits Materials needed:

  • Paper (newsprint, sketchbook etc.)
  • Pencils (H, F, HB, B, 3B, 5B)
  • Blending stomp
  • Sharpener
  • Eraser
  • Larger copy picture of a *portrait to draw (either blown up to 8” x 10”) – preferred to have image emailed to myself and I will blow them up and print them as students will draw graphs on the image to draw
  • Charcoal

*Portrait may be of themselves or someone else, details are important so the picture will be larger resolution – will give example

Materials needed:

  • Watercolour paper
  • Watercolours
  • Masking tape
  • Containers
  • Paint brushes
  • One high resolution of a picture that the student wishes to work on, Rebekah will provide various pictures though if a student wishes to have their own they are welcome to bring one in

Watercolour –Cont.

Complete project

Materials needed:

  • Watercolour paper (Rebekah can provide one sheet of watercolour paper)
  • Masking tape
  • Containers
  • Paint brushes
  • Watercolours (Rebekah can bring in various brands of paint though students are welcome to bring any from home)

Oil – Landscapes – Walking Path

Materials needed:

  • Paper for Pastels
  • Canvas for Oil
  • Paint brushes
  • Containers
  • Paint brushes
  • Watercolours (Rebekah can bring in various brands of paint though students are welcome to bring any from home)
  • One high resolution of a picture of a landscape to incorporate the walking path that the student wishes to work on, Rebekah will provide various pictures though if a student wishes to have their own they are welcome to bring one in

Oil – Landscapes Cont.

Complete project

Materials needed:

  • Paper for pastels
  • Canvas for Oil
  • Paint brushes
  • Containers
  • Paint brushes
  • Watercolours (Rebekah can bring in various brands of paint though students are welcome to bring any from home)

Multi-media – Walking Path

Ink

Discuss and practise cross hatching, different pens and tips, India ink, washes etc. Materials Needed:

  • Paper (Toned grey, brown and white 11” x 14” around 80 lb)
  • Pens (Faber-Castell – various tips – black)
  • Gel pens – (White)
  • Pencil
  • India Ink
  • Paint brushes

Multi-media – Walking Path

Collage

Materials needed:

  • Paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Magazines (Rebekah will bring in various National Geographic and other magazines)

Multi-media

Students are welcome to create an art project of their choice using various techniques and art mediums that have been previous discussed/worked on.
