Virtual Quilt - Legacy Project - Stories from Mission’s Past @ Lifetime Learning: The 20th Century Mission Project: Mission’s Lifetime Learning Oral History Centre Project: A Mission centered series that includes topics such as downtown, clubs, business, industry, medicine, civil service, education, early settlers, politics, daily life, community events, Mission children who later became famous, war years, the flood, &  more.  This ongoing program recognizes the support of the District of Mission and New Horizons for Seniors Initiative & BC150 Mosaic (2008). Art Appreciation: Art Through the Ages with Molly Ungar, UFV
How did painting, sculpture and architecture develop through the ages? In this three-part journey, we look at and  talk about art from its beginnings to the present day. This includes art in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, Romanticism, Impressionism and the major artistic movements of the 20th century.

The Canadian Red Tory Tradition With Ron Dart 
We in Canada have come to think that the Mulroney-Manning-Harper form of republican conservatism reflects historic Canadian conservatism. This lecture will debunk such an illusion by pondering the Red Tory conservative tradition of Judith Robinson, Mazo de la Roche, Stephen Leacock, Prime Ministers Bennett and Diefenbaker, Howard Green, Donald Creighton, Eugene Forsey, George Grant, Milton Acorn, Flora McDonald, Heath MacQarrie and DaltonCamp.

Mission’s Health Care Plan
This series focuses on Mission’s Health Care Plan: Dr. Matt Blackwood and District of Mission’s Glen Robertson will give an overview of the plan which was developed from a series of public  consultations.  Dr. Blackwood, head of family practice at Mission Memorial Hospital, will speak on The Mandate of Primary Care for Mission, including the cost effective delivery of the best health care.

The Life and Times of C.F. Andrews: An Illustrated presentation
With Gilli McLaren

A charismatic Anglican priest, a Cambridge don, part of India's independence movement, friend of Mahatma Gandhi, & Lord Hardinge, Viceroy of India. A humble man, Andrews was honored and respected in the highest echelons of both British and Indian society; a colossus, who traversed the pages of history from South Africa to Fiji, he left an indelible imprint and a lasting legacy through his life and convictions. He was directly, and single handedly responsible for the abolition of indentured labor in Fiji, which was but slavery in disguise.

Shakespeare Lecture – a Midsummer Night’s Dream with Ian Fenwick
LLC welcomes back Ian Fenwick  as he prepares us for  UVF’s production of Shakespeare’s  magical and best loved romantic comedy “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”.  We are pleased to join UFV Theatre in celebrating its thirtieth anniversary.

Saving Places - one site at a time with Heritage Conservation Branch, Mission
"Saving Places" - one site at a time is a 1 hour documentary series that will include four national historic sites in Canada.  The first in this series, New Foundations for the Church of the Holy Cross, follows the step-by-step work of replacing the 100 year old river rock that the Church was built on with new concrete footings.  Enjoy the beautiful natural setting on the Lillooet River in the Coast Mountains, empathize with the difficulties of working in an isolated location, learn the history of the St'atl'imx people who built the church, and its on-going role at the centre of community life." Facilitator Sharon Syrette will also revisit the people and stories from her book Spirit in the Land: Our Place of Prayers.

Wellness Programs

Fitness Classes
On-going, Tues & Thu 9:10am 10 for $30 ($40 for non-member)
Workouts are tailored to third age specific requirements; join us for
50 minutes of music, fun & good exercise with programs specially
designed for seniors. Some weight strengthening exercises included. Programs designed in partnership with UCFV Kinesiology. Our class is designed for all levels and is especially useful for people with joint disorders such as osteoporosis and arthritis; we teach flexibility, strength training, light weights & relaxation to help you maintain a healthy lifestyle to stay mobile & independent. Chairs provided for the class.

Osteofit I & II
Special Winter/Spring Rates: 30 sessions / $95 (January to April )

50 minute programs especially designed for people with osteoporosis who are at an increased risk for fracture or who already have had one or more fractures. Each class has an educational & social component; informational handouts are provided (class size is limited). Please note: Osteo fitness classes do not replace the care of a physiotherapist. Always consult your physician before beginning an exercise program.
Choose either Level 1 or Level 2.

Osteofit I Tuesday & Thurday 11–11:50am
Intended to give people with osteoporosis the opportunity to begin an exercise program suitable for their needs and provide a place to meet other people with osteoporosis in a social activity.

Osteofit II Tuesday & Thurday 10–10:50am
For those who have already taken the Level 1 program.

WALKATHON –  Thursday, April 15 or 22
Wellness Gathering Come join us as we raise funds for our new centre and celebrate  the benefits of healthy living, exercise, friendship.  Prizes!!!
