Daytime book discussion group held the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month. Starts Tuesday Sept. 27, 2011, 10 am - 12 noon. If you enjoy books & discussion, this program is for you. Come for single sessions or join us for the whole series of stimulating discussions on great literature.

A monthly discussion and conversation series which draws inspiration from philosophy in an open-minded and inviting amsphere,  covering a broad range of issues -- politics, history and more.

Italian conversation with Vittorio Pistone
Five one hour sessions on the basics for conversing in Italia, including:  Using Italian courtesies; How to greet friends and strangers; How to shop; discuss the Euro; review map of Italy and discuss various “must see places”, and possible itineraries for each location; Railways, Metros and Buses; where to get tickets and where to stamp them for use. Much transport is available but a lot of walking is still necessary; Security: in these troubled times it’s necessary to discuss security and places that may be more risky, and what action to take; Conversation: using Italian articles and discussing accents and pronunciation

20 Ways to be Food Self-Reliant with Andrea Lawseth
Food Security from the Mission Food Access Network
This workshop focuses on ways individuals and communities can work towards being more self-sufficient in food. As the local food movement expands we now realize the benefits of eating locally and producing our own food. Food tastes better when it’s picked ripe and you have that sense of accomplishment from watching a seed develop into a plant that you can consume. There are a number of ways to get involved in the local food movement and some innovative ideas to get your creative juices flowing. We’ll address all the usual suspects such as community gardens and famrs markets, but we’ll also discuss exciting projects like a community root cellar.

Art Appreciation Series: Visionary, Fantastic, Surreal Art and Surrealist Art with Aleksandra Idzior, UFV Art History
This series is in response to the most comprehensive exhibition of Surrealist Art ever to be shown in Canada organized by the Vancouver Art Gallery this past summer, "The Colour of My Dreams: the Surrealist Revolution in Art".  We will explore not only surrealist works but overall art that is highly imaginary, often surprising, at times disturbing, and always provoking.  Please pre-register.

Wellness Programs

(held at Lifetime Learning Gym at Fraserview School, 32444 7th Ave, Mission BC.)

Fitness Classes

Workouts are tailored to third age specific requirements; join us for
50 minutes of music, fun & good exercise with programs specially
designed for seniors and those requiring specialty fitness approaches. Some weight strengthening exercises included. Programs designed in partnership with UCFV Kinesiology. Our class is designed for all levels and is especially useful for people with joint disorders such as osteoporosis and arthritis; we teach flexibility, strength training, light weights & relaxation to help you maintain a healthy lifestyle to stay mobile & independent. Chairs provided for the class.

Fee: 10 classes for $30 ($40 for non-member)

Osteofit I & II
50 minute programs especially designed for people with osteoporosis who are at an increased risk for fracture or who already have had one or more fractures. Each class has an educational & social component; informational handouts are provided (class size is limited). Please note: Osteo fitness classes do not replace the care of a physiotherapist. Always consult your physician before beginning an exercise program.
Choose either Level 1 or Level 2.

Osteofit I Tuesday & Thurday 11–11:50am
Intended to give people with osteoporosis the opportunity to begin an exercise program suitable for their needs and provide a place to meet other people with osteoporosis in a social activity.
Fee: 10 classes - $35 members / $45 non-members

Osteofit II Tuesday & Thurday 10–10:50am
For those who have already taken the Level 1 program.
Fee: 10 classes - $35 members / $45 non-members
